US-based medical device leader Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) has announced the market launch of its Athletis peripheral balloon dilatation catheter in mainland China. This product is designed for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of the peripheral vascular system and is utilized in the treatment of stenotic lesions in autologous or artificial arteriovenous dialysis pathways. Additionally, it is used for the posterior expansion of stents and covered stents in the peripheral vascular system.
Advantages of High-Pressure Non-Compliant Balloons
Studies have indicated that high-pressure non-compliant balloons have become the preferred choice for hemodialysis access maintenance surgery. Compared to conventional balloons, these offer higher burst pressure and non-compliance, which can achieve better lumen and maintain longer blood flow patency. However, there are instances where refractory strictures cannot be fully expanded using high-pressure non-compliant balloons alone, leading to the emergence of ultra-high-pressure balloons.
Features of the Athletis Catheter
The Athletis catheter, a non-compliant balloon featuring a patented woven balloon design process, allows for ultra-high pressure of up to 40 ATM. It provides scratch and puncture resistance properties, even when dealing with high-resistance diseases. The leading design enables efficient traversal through severe stenosis lesions while minimizing the effort required to pass through the lesions, ensuring efficient surgery and reducing damage to the lesions. The innovative design of the balloon and push rod also ensures ideal trafficability in a twisted vascular environment, assisting surgeons in handling more complex lesions.-Fineline Info & Tech
