Shanghai MicroPort MedBot Completes World’s Furthest Remote Robot Surgery via 5G

Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd (HKG: 2252) announced the successful completion of a remote surgery performed by the Toumai endoscopic surgery robot via 5G connection between Jiangsu Province Hospital and Xinjiang Kezhou Ren Min Yiyuan. This achievement marks the world’s furthest remote robot surgery conducted to date.

Toumai Robot’s Innovation
Toumai, a home-grown endoscopic surgery robot approved in China in January 2022, stands as the country’s first and only four-arm endoscopic surgery robot. It offers clinical advantages such as a three-dimensional real surgical field and highly flexible surgical instruments, having proven its effectiveness and safety in clinical trials.

5G Technology’s Role
Using 5G remote technology, the surgery minimized image and control delays through the synchronous transmission and reproduction of 3D images. It also featured real-time monitoring and early warning of network communication quality, ensuring the surgery’s safety and successful completion.-Fineline Info & Tech
