China Updates Class 3 Hospital Accreditation Standards for 2025

Last month, China’s National Health Commission officially issued the Class 3 Hospital Accreditation Standards (2025 Edition). The updated standards aim to guide Class 3 hospitals in better fulfilling their functional roles. They emphasize the diagnosis and treatment of acute, critical, and complex diseases, while enhancing specialized services, technological innovation, talent development, and support for grassroots medical institutions. The revisions are designed to promote a shift toward quality- and efficiency-driven development. The 2022 version has now been officially repealed.

Key Revisions
The 2025 Edition refines accreditation requirements in key areas, including hospital governance, functional positioning, discipline development, medical management, and professional conduct. It aligns with the goal of deepening quality- and efficiency-focused development.

Major Changes
A significant change is the elimination of on-site inspections. The new standards introduce an optimized, IT-driven accreditation process that emphasizes routine data monitoring and online evaluations. This aims to reduce administrative burdens on hospitals. Additionally, the new standards impose stricter requirements on hospitals’ data governance capabilities, including standardized information system development and real-time data reporting. This facilitates a synchronized transformation of hospital management systems and accreditation models.-Fineline Info & Tech
