China-based Chison Medical Technologies (SHA: 688358) announced on July 23, 2025, a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to jointly develop and promote innovative obstetric and breast ultrasound screening equipment. The Gates Foundation will provide a total project grant of $2.1 million.
Project Objectives
The project aims to create novel ultrasound solutions by integrating intelligent prenatal and breast lesion screening functionalities directly into ultrasound devices. This technology will enable smart identification of critical high-risk pregnancies in prenatal and perinatal women, accurately assess fetal health (such as gestational age), and efficiently conduct breast screenings for women.
Empowering Healthcare Workers
The initiative will empower community healthcare workers, midwives, and other non-ultrasound professionals in low- and middle-income countries to perform obstetric ultrasound examinations and breast lesion screenings. This is expected to contribute to a global reduction in maternal and infant mortality rates and improve the health of women and children.-Fineline Info & Tech
