Shanxi Province Announces Historic Drug Procurement Batch with 81 Products for 2024

On October 16, 2024, Shanxi Province’s drug procurement platform announced a notice regarding the submission of demand quantities for the tenth batch of national centralized drug procurement, with a record 81 drugs (263 specifications) making the list. This is poised to set a new record for the highest number of products included in a national drug procurement initiative. Medical institutions are required to complete their submissions by October 28, 2024.

For products with increasing usage trends, such as those newly added to the medical insurance catalog in 2022 and 2023 (listed in the demand quantity inventory) and those with enhanced clinical guideline recommendations, institutions should consider increasing their reported quantities. Conversely, for products with anticipated declines in usage, such as those reduced by relevant hospital departments, a decrease in reported quantities is permissible, provided an explanation and supporting documentation are submitted. For products with unstable usage patterns, particularly those linked to seasonal or epidemic diseases, institutions should take into account the characteristics of these conditions when determining their reported quantities.

If a medical institution’s reported quantity falls below 80% of its historical procurement volume, an explanation will be required. Institutions with historical procurement volumes but which do not participate in the reporting will be monitored closely during subsequent evaluations. For the products newly added to the medical insurance catalog in 2022 and 2023, as well as those with elevated guideline recommendations, institutions are encouraged to aim for reported quantities that reach 100% of their historical procurement volumes. In support of the health authorities’ efforts to enhance rational drug use management, no lower reporting limits will be set for drugs listed in the “National Key Monitoring Rational Drug Use Drug Catalog,” while antimicrobial drugs will be allowed to reduce reported quantities by a margin of up to 20% below their historical procurement levels.- Flcube.com
