Eisai (TYO: 4523<\/a>), a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company, has announced that it has received marketing approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for its drug Leqembi (lecanemab), an amyloid-beta (A\u03b2)-targeting therapy indicated for the treatment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This marks a significant milestone in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, as Leqembi is positioned as the first disease-modifying treatment for AD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leqembi is designed to target both soluble and insoluble A\u03b2 aggregates, including protofibrils and fibrils, thereby reducing the formation of A\u03b2 plaques in the brain. The drug has garnered full approval in the US since July 2023 and received a similar nod in Japan in September of the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eisai is at the forefront of the global development and regulatory filing for Leqembi.
