France’s Pasteur Institute has announced its decision to suspend its joint-venture (JV) partnership with the Beijing-based Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), known as the Institute Pasteur of Shanghai. According to a statement, the Pasteur Institute will no longer co-lead the JV and is not participating in any of its activities. As a result, the name of the JV will be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reason for the Decision<\/strong>
A clear reason for the decision was not provided. In its statement, the Pasteur Institute commented, \u201cThis choice was made in order to begin a new cycle of conversations for improving the relationship between the two organizations and finding a more productive way to work together.\u201d The French research institute stated that it remains open to future collaborations with CAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background of the Institute Pasteur Shanghai<\/strong>
The Institute Pasteur Shanghai was first established in 2004, dedicated to basic research into infectious diseases control and prevention, including pathogenesis, immunology, and vaccinology, as well as the translation of scientific research into commercial stages. According to the JV’s website, the Shanghai JV currently has 146 active staff and 29 post-docs carrying out research at the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
