Beijing Expands Medical Insurance Sharing to Near Relatives with New Policy

The Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau has released a notification that significantly expands the scope of employee medical insurance individual accounts to be shared among family members. This policy now includes not only immediate relatives—spouse, parents, and children—but also near relatives, which encompasses siblings, grandparents, maternal grandparents, and grandchildren. To utilize the personal account of an insured individual under this city’s employee medical insurance, two conditions must be met: the relatives must be insured under the city’s basic medical insurance (BMI), and they must be registered. When funds from insured individuals’ personal accounts are used in designated medical institutions, one’s own personal account should be used before accessing another’s in the order of filing.

Guangdong Province’s Healthcare Security Administration Implements BMI Participation Long-Term Mechanism
The Healthcare Security Administration of Guangdong Province has issued a notice on the implementation of a long-term mechanism for BMI participation, which also broadens the scope to include an individual and their close relatives, including spouse, parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren. The document establishes incentives for continuous insurance participation and zero reimbursement. For those who have been continuously insured for at least four years, the maximum payment limit for major illness insurance can be increased by RMB 3,800 for each year of renewal. Insured individuals who received zero reimbursement from the fund in the past will see their maximum payment limit for major illness insurance increased by RMB 3,800 the following year. The two incentive amounts can be accumulated, but the total cumulative increase shall not exceed 20% of the original top line of the major illness insurance in the pooling area. After residents receive reimbursement for major illnesses and use the reward amount, the previously accumulated zero reimbursement incentive amount will be reset to zero. For those who participate in insurance again after termination, the number of consecutive years of insurance will be recalculated. The document, effective on January 1, 2025, will remain in effect for five years.-Fineline Info & Tech
