Qilu Pharmaceutical, a China-based firm, has benefited from the effects of drug shortages in the United States. According to a notice on the US FDA website, Qilu has been temporarily authorized to import the chemotherapy drug cisplatin to the US market, despite its product not being officially approved.
Timing and Distribution Details
The permission was received by Qilu several weeks prior, with the company sending a letter to healthcare professionals on May 24 to notify them of this development. Qilu will collaborate with Canada’s Apotex to distribute 50mg vials of cisplatin across the US market, with healthcare organizations able to start making purchases from the following Tuesday.
Cisplatin’s Therapeutic Uses and Qilu’s History with the Drug
Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapy agent, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other drugs, to treat a range of cancers including bladder, ovarian, and testicular cancers.
