Siemens Lays Foundation for New Medical Equipment Base in Shenzhen

Siemens (Shenzhen) Magnetic Resonance Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens Ltd., China, has officially laid the foundation for its new high-end medical equipment R&D and manufacturing base project in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. This significant investment marks a major expansion of Siemens’ capabilities in the region.

Project Details and Timeline
The RMB 1 billion (USD 136 million) project, covering an area of 63,000 square meters, is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 at the latest. The new base will undertake the research and production functions of vascular imaging equipment and magnetic resonance core components, including Siemens Healthineers’ (ETR: SHL) latest DryCool innovative superconducting magnet.

Strategic Importance of the Shenzhen Base
The Shenzhen base is Siemens’ only global base with a complete magnetic resonance value chain and is also the only vascular imaging system research and production base outside of Germany. With a total shipment volume exceeding 9,000 units, the base plays a crucial role in Siemens’ global operations. Notably, the MAGNETOM Terra.X, a 7T ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging product manufactured locally in China, was approved in the country in September of last year.

Strategic Implications
The establishment of the new R&D and manufacturing base in Shenzhen underscores Siemens’ commitment to enhancing its presence in the Chinese market and supporting the global demand for advanced medical imaging equipment. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and technologies, Siemens aims to improve the efficiency and capacity of its production, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of innovation in medical equipment. This move is expected to strengthen Siemens’ position in the healthcare sector and contribute to the broader development of medical technology in China and globally.-Fineline Info & Tech
