Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Overview
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease causing urination disorders in middle-aged and elderly men. Over half of men aged over 50 globally suffer from BPH, with the proportion rising to 90% among men over 80. The Rezūm system pioneers ultra – minimally invasive hot steam therapy, which can be performed under local anesthesia. It uses the heat energy release of high-temperature water vapor to instantly necrotize the tissue cells of prostatic hyperplasia. These cells are naturally absorbed by the human body, reducing the size of the prostate and improving clinical symptoms. The average operation time is only 5 – 8 minutes, and the patient’s sexual function is well preserved.
Market Availability
The system has been available in the Lecheng Bo’ao Medical Tourism Pilot Zone since December 2020 through the pilot zone’s accelerated access policy. Supported by real-world data, it was approved for marketing in China in March this year.-Fineline Info & Tech
