NMPA Optimizes Drug Manufacturing License Process with Digital QR Codes

The National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has announced new measures to optimize the drug manufacturing license process through digital means. Starting July 1, 2025, provincial regulatory authorities will manage Drug Manufacturing Licenses using electronic QR codes, enhancing transparency and efficiency in the pharmaceutical sector.

QR Code Implementation
For Drug Manufacturing Licenses issued on or after July 1, 2025, provincial authorities will uniformly manage them via electronic QR codes. Both paper and electronic versions of the licenses must include QR codes. Key information, including production line details and contract manufacturing status, will be uploaded to the NMPA’s dedicated management module within five working days of procedural completion.

Dynamic Updates and Accessibility
Starting January 1, 2026, scanning the QR code will display real-time information such as enterprise details, workshop specifics, and license modification records. This ensures accuracy and accessibility, reducing the need for redundant printed materials.

Regulatory Efficiency
The new system eliminates the need for printed license copies unless specifically requested by enterprises. Drug regulatory departments will base evaluations and inspections on QR code-encapsulated information, streamlining processes and reducing administrative burdens.-Fineline Info & Tech
