Johnson & Johnson (J&J; NYSE: JNJ) suffered a defeat in a US court this week, where a 49-year-old mesothelioma patient claimed that the company’s cosmetic products were the cause of her illness. The plaintiff alleged that J&J was aware of the presence of asbestos, a known cause of mesothelioma, in their talc powder but continued to market it.
The jury determined that the company was negligent for selling defective products and ordered J&J to pay $260 million in compensatory and punitive damages.- Flcube.com
