China’s National Procurement Office Announces Continuous VBP for Joint Prosthetics

The National High-Value Medical Consumables Joint Procurement Office in China has initiated a new round of continuous volume-based procurement (VBP) for joint prosthetics. All provinces are mandated to participate in procurement alliances, including both public and private medical institutions. The Tianjin Pharmaceutical Procurement Center will handle the daily operations and the detailed execution of this nationwide program.

The VBP procurement will operate on a three-year tendering cycle and will cover primary total hip arthroplasty and primary total knee arthroplasty, including products that utilize additive manufacturing technology, such as 3D printing, with a particular interest in customized products. The annual procurement demand for hip and knee joint product systems stands at 285,995 and 295,567 units, respectively.

The maximum effective bidding price for the hip joint product system is calculated from the sum of unit prices of the femoral stem, femoral head, acetabular liner, acetabular cup, and two acetabular screws. Similarly, for the knee joint product system, it is the sum of the unit prices of the tibial platform, tibial pad, femoral condyle, and one patellar prosthesis.

Manufacturers interested in participating are advised to complete national medical insurance coding applications by May 17, 2024, and finalize product information on the procurement platform at https://hc.tjmpc.cn:10128/. The product systems to be involved must be confirmed by 8:30 am on May 21, 2024, with the manufacturing filing work to be completed by the same deadline. On-site filings will be accepted at the Evergrande Hotel, Tianjin Dongli Lake starting from 8:30 am on May 21, 2024.- Flcube.com
