The National Health Commission (NHC) has issued a set of Opinions aimed at “Promoting the High Quality Development of Children’s Medical and Health Services,” outlining a comprehensive plan to enhance the children’s healthcare system across national, regional, and local levels by 2025. The initiative focuses on improving the allocation of pediatric medical resources, with a target of 0.87 pediatric practicing (assistant) physicians and 2.5 pediatric beds per 1,000 children.
Central to this effort, the National Children’s Regional Medical Center will lead the diagnosis and treatment of complex pediatric diseases, foster key resources, and conduct clinical research on major illnesses, all aimed at addressing children’s medical needs and reducing disparities in healthcare access across regions. Additionally, provincial children’s regional medical centers will provide support to areas with inadequate pediatric services, aiming to bridge the gap in healthcare capabilities between urban centers and smaller medical institutions.
The NHC also encourages drug production enterprises to invest in research and development of pediatric medications, with a focus on suitable dosage forms and specifications. Efforts will be made to enhance monitoring of pediatric drug usage, maintain a list of in-shortage drugs, and ensure that children’s medications are included in key monitoring lists for clinically necessary and scarce drugs.- Flcube.com
