The National Health Commission (NHC), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Civil Affairs, and six other bureaus have released the “Accelerating the Eradication of Cervical Cancer Action Plan.” The initiative seeks to establish a multi-bureau network focused on driving cervical cancer prevention and control mechanisms with the goal of eradicating the disease in China.
Action Plan Overview
The Action Plan outlines four principles and two phased objectives. These include adhering to overall planning and coordination, departmental linkage, prioritizing prevention, combining prevention and control, promoting innovative development through technology, and ensuring fairness and accessibility. The document sets phased goals for 2025 and 2030, including continuing pilot programs to promote HPV vaccination among school-age girls. By 2030, the plan aims to achieve a 70% screening rate for cervical cancer among women and a 90% treatment rate for cervical cancer and precancerous lesions.
Prevention and Treatment Measures
The Action Plan proposes primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention measures to promote comprehensive prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. This includes:
- Popularizing knowledge on cervical cancer prevention and promoting HPV vaccination to reduce disease risk.
- Strengthening cervical cancer screening services, improving long-term screening mechanisms, and promoting early diagnosis and treatment.
- Standardizing the diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer, promoting unified and standardized guidelines, improving rehabilitation guidance, and enhancing treatment quality for patients.
Implementation and Support
The Action Plan calls for the improvement of the comprehensive prevention and treatment system for cervical cancer. It urges all provinces (districts and cities) to strengthen organizational leadership, implement funding guarantees, conduct effective evaluations, and focus efforts on promoting the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer.-Fineline Info & Tech
