Beijing Authorities Launch Plan to Streamline Temporary Import of Urgently Needed Medical Drugs and Devices

In a joint effort to streamline access to critical medical resources, the Beijing Municipal Medical Products Administration (BJMPA), the Beijing Municipal Health Commission (BJHC), the Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance bureau, and Beijing Customs have introduced the “Implementation Plan for Promoting the Temporary Import of Clinically Urgently Needed Drugs and Devices in Beijing (Trial)”. This initiative is designed to expedite the approval process for the temporary importation of urgently needed clinical drugs and devices, creating a green channel that aligns with the city’s healthcare requirements.

Eligible medical and health institutions within Beijing’s jurisdiction can submit requests for the temporary import of urgently needed clinical drugs to the BJHC and medical devices to the BJMPA, based on actual clinical needs. For subsequent applications by the same institution for the same product, the initial evaluation can be reused, with assessments focusing on the declared quantity if needed.

The BJMPA will spearhead the development of a digital traceability system for these temporary imports and collaborate with the BJHC on an adverse reaction monitoring system. The agency will also oversee the overall execution of the plan. This trial initiative will be effective from the date of policy issuance, with a planned trial period of two years.- Flcube.com
