Guangdong Launches Free HPV Vaccination Program for School-aged Girls

Guangdong province has rolled out a free HPV vaccination program this month, aimed at improving immunization rates among young girls. According to the “Work Plan for Free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Vaccination for School-aged Girls in Guangdong Province (2022-2024)” released in November last year, the program will provide free vaccines to students under the age of 14 who have a student status in Guangdong province and have not been vaccinated against HPV.

Program Details and Implementation
The vaccination program will target students in their first year of junior high school, with vaccinations taking place from September to November each year from 2022 to 2024. The initiative is based on the principles of consent, voluntariness, and free access. Chinese bivalent HPV vaccines will be used, which will be procured by the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention and distributed to vaccination points across the province.

Long-term Goals and Impact
The program is designed to ensure that by 2030, 90% of girls under the age of 15 will be fully immunized against HPV. This initiative underscores Guangdong’s commitment to public health and the prevention of HPV-related diseases, aiming to significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and other HPV-related conditions in the future.-Fineline Info & Tech
