China’s NHC Approves 2023 Large Medical Equipment Configuration Licenses, Targets Cancer Treatment

The National Health Commission (NHC) has granted approval for the Class A large medical equipment configuration licenses for the year 2023. This includes the installation of heavy ion proton radiation therapy systems in 21 hospitals and high-end radiation therapy equipment in 17 hospitals.

In March 2023, the NHC issued the “Catalogue for License Management of Large Medical Equipment Configuration (2023),” assuming the role of overseeing the configuration management for Class A equipment. This category encompasses heavy ion proton radiation therapy systems, high-end radiation therapy equipment—including magnetic resonance guided radiation therapy systems and X-ray stereotactic radiosurgery treatment systems such as Cyberknife—and large medical devices with a single unit (set) price of RMB 50 million or more for the initial configuration. Provincial health commissions are tasked with managing Class B devices, which include product varieties such as positron emission magnetic resonance imaging systems (PET/MR), X-ray positron emission tomography (PET/CT), abdominal endoscopic surgical systems, conventional radiation therapy equipment—including medical linear accelerators, spiral computed tomography radiation therapy systems, and gamma ray stereotactic radiation therapy systems—and large-scale medical devices priced between RMB 30-50 million for the first configuration per single unit (set).- Flcube.com
