Shenzhen Unveils Measures to Boost Biomedical and Medical Device Industries

Shenzhen’s municipal Development and Reform Commission has released a series of measures to promote the development of the city’s biomedical, medical device, and big health industry clusters. The initiatives aim to accelerate infrastructure construction, enhance clinical research capabilities, and streamline drug registration and approval processes.

Infrastructure and Research Support

  • A biomedical industry park will be established, with support for state key laboratories and national engineering research centers. Subsidies of up to RMB 30 million (USD 4.45 million) will be provided.
  • A national enterprise technology center will be set up, with subsidies of up to RMB 15 million (USD 2.2 million).

Funding for Key Technologies

  • Basic research into drugs and key technologies will receive up to RMB 30 million (USD 4.45 million) in funding.
  • For chemical, antibody, genetic drugs, cell therapies, and microbial therapies, 40% of total research project investment will be subsidized, with a maximum of RMB 300 million (USD 44.5 million).

Medical Device Development

  • Subsidies of up to RMB 30 million (USD 4.45 million) will support medical device research in new fields, including high-end imaging systems, surgical robots, and in vitro diagnostic equipment.
  • Industrialization projects will receive funding for 40% of total project investment, up to RMB 300 million (USD 44.5 million), for companies achieving mass production or successful application of key components.

Big Health Industry Growth
Shenzhen also plans to promote the big health industry through:

  • Development of rehabilitation and elderly care industries.
  • Advancement of precision medicine.
  • Exploration of precision nutrition.
  • Encouragement of medical aesthetics.
